Mohamad Chahrour (MD 2024)

Hello! My name is Mohamad and I only fully clean shave once every two years (N95...). Other than that I'm usually rocking a full beard or a stache.

Why do you think it's important to raise awareness for prostate cancer, and what's motivating you to get involved?

  1. Globally 1 man dies by suicide every minute of every day. Yet, we're too "Manly" to talk about it.
  2. Testicular Cancer is the MOST common cancer in young men. Yet, we're too "Manly" to talk about it.
  3. One in nine men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. Yet we're too "Manly" to talk about it.

I'm dedicating this year's Movember to those men that didn't have to die young. The manliest thing you can do is to ask for help, whether that's talking to a friend, your partner, or a health care professional. We all are there for each other, let's make sure we never forget it.

Julien Turk (MD 2026)

Hi everyone! My name is Julien, I'm a first year medical student here at uOttawa. I was born and raised in Ottawa and completed my BSc at McGill in the spring of 2022. In my spare time, I love to stay active, spend time with my friends and go to the movies. I'm super excited to be joining the Movember competition and help contribute to this important cause! Apologies in advance to everyone who has to look at my moustache for the next 30 days (especially Diana).

Why do you think it's important to raise awareness for prostate cancer, and what's motivating you to get involved?

I think it's important to raise awareness about prostate cancer because it affects about 1 in 8 men during their life and I honestly had absolutely no idea that was the case. I think that goes to show that even someone who's studying medicine still has a lot to learn about this disease. This realization has really motivated me to get involved, learn more, and spread the information I find. I'm also hopping that in doing so I can contribute to ending some of the stigma that exists around mens health!
